1 · That he would know You for himself

Give my son the deep joy of knowing You for himself. Let faith become more than something he has heard about, more than familiar words or beloved traditions. Draw him into a life with You that is personal, honest, and alive.

Open his heart to recognize Your goodness. Let him discover that he can bring You his questions as freely as his gratitude, his failures as readily as his hopes. Teach him the sound of Your voice through Scripture and the quiet leading of Your Spirit. May he know Jesus as Savior and friend, and may grace shape each day he lives.

I am glad for every person who has shown him what faith can look like, but his heart belongs to You. There are places in him I will never reach, thoughts I will never hear, and choices that must be his alone. Meet him there, Father. Give him wisdom that is rooted in knowing Your character, courage that grows from trusting You, and compassion shaped by the love of Christ.

May my son walk with You freely, not to satisfy anyone else, but because he has come to know that You are worthy of his whole heart. Let his life with You be sincere, enduring, and entirely his own.

Questions

Before you start

I am not good with words. Can I still use this?

Yes. Every prayer is written out in full, so you can read it aloud or quietly, just as it is. You do not need to add anything. If a line does not fit your son, pass over it or say it your own way.

When you do want to use your own words, there are pages at the back to write them down.

Do I have to pray every day?

No. There is no schedule and nothing to keep up with. Open it when you need it and pray the one that fits what is happening. The index of situations at the back helps you find it. If you want to remember, write the date on the line at the end of the prayer.

Is it only for mothers?

No. It is written for mothers and fathers alike.

What if he does not believe?

Then there is a whole part of the book for you, called “When he does not share my faith”. It has prayers for when he has drifted from God, when he does not believe, when he is angry at God, and when he wants nothing to do with faith. He does not need to agree with you for you to pray for him.
