My own heart

When I do not know what to pray

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans too deep for words.

Romans 8:26

There are no clear words in me today, Father. I sit before You with my son on my heart, but I do not know what to ask. I cannot see everything he needs, and I am not even sure I understand what is stirring in me. Every sentence I begin feels too small.

So I will be quiet here.

Holy Spirit, help me in this weakness. Take the love, concern, gratitude, and longing I cannot sort out, and carry them into the heart of God. Pray within my silence. Let the sigh I cannot explain become an honest offering in Your presence.

You know my son completely. You know what he carries openly and what he keeps private. I do not need to find the perfect words before You will listen, and I do not need to understand his whole life before You can love him well.

Teach me to remain with You without filling the stillness. Quiet the part of me that mistakes many words for greater faith. For these few moments, let it be enough to breathe, to remember his face, and to place his name before You.

My son is here in my heart, Lord. I am here too. Meet us both in the silence.

Behold, the LORD is about to pass by.” And a great and mighty wind tore into the mountains and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake there was a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a still, small voice.
