My own heart

When I wonder where I went wrong

Even if our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our hearts, and He knows all things.

1 John 3:20

You know everything, Father, including the years I keep replaying. I return to old conversations, decisions, and seasons of my son's childhood, searching for the moment I should have chosen differently. My heart gathers every regret and tries to turn it into a verdict against me.

Meet me in this searching. Show me what is true. If there is a wrong I still need to acknowledge, give me courage to face it without excuse. If there is forgiveness I need to ask for, make me humble and specific. But keep me from claiming responsibility for every hardship, choice, or sorrow in my son's adult life. I am his parent, not the author of every page.

You saw what I understood then and what I did not. You remember the love beneath my imperfect efforts, and You also know where love fell short. Your knowledge is fuller than my memory and Your mercy is greater than my condemning heart.

Teach me to grieve without living under accusation. Help me receive the forgiveness Christ gives and let it make me more honest, not less. Bless my son where my parenting was weak, and strengthen what was good between us. I cannot return to those years, but I can love him well today. Free me to do that with humility, steadiness, and hope.
