When his life is hard
When his marriage has ended
to console the mourners in Zion—to give them a crown of beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, and a garment of praise for a spirit of despair. So they will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.
Isaiah 61:3
Hold my son close in the grief of a marriage that has ended. There are losses within this loss that only You can see: the life he expected, the familiar rhythms of home, the shared hopes that will not unfold as he imagined. I grieve with him, Lord, and I do not want him to mistake my sorrow for disappointment in him.
Help me make that clear. Let him know that he has not failed me and does not have to protect me from the truth of what he feels. Give me patience when his grief comes unevenly, when one day seems lighter and the next brings the ache back again. Keep me from searching for explanations, assigning blame, or rushing him toward a brighter chapter before he has mourned this one.
Where regret is his to carry, lead him toward honest repentance and the mercy of Christ. Where blame has been laid on him unfairly, guard him from accepting it as his identity. Preserve what is good in him through the strain of endings, decisions, and changed relationships.
Make me a gentle place for him to land, while respecting the life he must now rebuild for himself. In time, bring beauty where he can presently see only ashes, not by erasing what mattered, but by tending what remains. Root him again in Your love, and let hope return at a pace his heart can bear.
